Game Description:

Tiki Tiki Subtract is a 1^st Grade game that turns subtraction practice into an engaging adventure bespoke for kids. The game has just the right visuals coupled with playful characters and simple game mechanics. Talk of the kind of play environment that gives kids a reason to keep tapping, playing and solving math problems.

Every subtraction question that pops up is more or less a fun challenge rather than the usual repetitive arithmetic practice that might get learners at such a young age bored, particularly when their attention spans are short.

A Simple Subtraction Game For First Graders

This is a nice math practice game as it makes subtraction more interactive and purposeful. Instead of simply solving a question and clicking an answer, children have to work out the subtraction problem. They then pick the answer to help their character move forward.

For Grade 1 learners, it is more or less about getting repeated practice with basic subtraction in a way that is fun! Young learners can use the game to help recognize number relationships, plus they get to improve their speed and accuracy at doing so.

It also gives children room to make mistakes and try again. A few incorrect answers mean losing one heart at a time. They are pretty much part of the desired learning experience as the game doesn’t end right away.

How to Play

• You have the option of selecting whichever character appeals to them before starting the game.
• Click play and wait for the subtraction question to appear on the wooden sign carried by the bird.
• Look at the question and work out the answer. The questions are kept very simple for young learners.
• Check the answer blocks on the platform ahead. There are usually three numbers to choose from.
• Pick the number that matches the answer to the subtraction problem.
• A correct answer lets the character continue through the platform section and adds to the score.
• There are three hearts at the top of the screen. They act as the player’s chances during the game.
• If the child gets an answer wrong, a heart is lost.
• Keep answering the questions and moving across the platforms for as long as there are hearts left.
• When the last heart is used, the character jumps down and falls from the platforms.
• The game then shows the final score on the Game Over screen, where the child can start another round or go back to the main menu.

Educational Benefits

• The questions are simple thus they are well-suited for children who are still getting comfortable with basic subtraction. Kids get to work through a series of simple subtraction questions instead of doing just one or two and stopping.
• It improves concentration given the child needs to pay close attention to the question and the three answer blocks containing the possible answer to the question, instead of simply clicking around the screen.
• The character, platforms and bird turn each subtraction question into part of the gameplay, giving children a more engaging way to practice maths compared to simply answering questions on a screen
